Updated April 15, 2025
At ByteSpeed, we pride ourselves on being more than just a technology vendor—we’re your trusted partner, here to help you navigate change with confidence.
The recent federal tariff developments, effective since April 2, have already begun to reshape the technology landscape. From supply chains to pricing models, these shifts are having a significant impact on computer hardware and related components.
While the full picture is still unfolding, one thing remains certain: ByteSpeed is committed to keeping you informed and supported through every twist and turn.
On April 11, 2025, a new update (CSMS #64724565) from the U.S. administration brought a wave of relief for the tech industry by announcing exemptions for 20 HTS codes—covering a wide range of computer-related components. While this development doesn’t include everything, it’s certainly a big step in the right direction.
Here’s what this means for the industry:
Many commonly used items in the computing world—such as full systems (from tablets to high-end servers), GPUs, and accelerators—have now been exempted from the reciprocal tariffs that were first introduced on April 2. These exemptions are even better news because they’re not temporary. So, even if the 90-day pause on the broader tariff plan comes to an end, these specific items will remain unaffected by the April 2 tariff schedule.
However, not every component is in the clear. Some categories—particularly power supplies, cooling fans, and air coolers—are still subject to high tariff rates and remain excluded from the exemption list. It’s a reminder that identifying and categorizing components accurately remains crucial when it comes to navigating international sourcing.
Looking Ahead:
This exemption only applies to the tariffs outlined in the April 2 reciprocal tariff policy. Other tariffs remain in effect, including:
- The 20% tariffs imposed earlier in 2025 (February and March),
- Legacy tariffs of 25%+ from 2018 and 2019.
In addition, the administration has signaled that new tariffs on semiconductor products may be introduced in the coming weeks, so we’re expecting further changes on the horizon.
At ByteSpeed, we’re staying on top of every policy shift to help our partners make informed decisions. If you have questions or need clarification on how this impacts your upcoming orders, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team—we’re here to help.
A Strategic, Transparent Approach
ByteSpeed is a nationwide technology solutions provider that has proudly served schools, businesses, and government agencies since 1999. Our foundation is built on integrity, transparency, and collaboration. We design and custom-build our own line of desktops, workstations, and esports PCs—each backed by a 5-year warranty and lifetime U.S.-based technical support. But we’re more than just system builders. We partner with top-tier technology providers to deliver comprehensive, turnkey solutions tailored to your unique needs. That collaborative approach is more important now than ever.
We’ve been closely tracking the recent tariff developments and, like many of you, have experienced serious whiplash. While there was positive news recently, some products are already showing price increases, and supply chain disruptions are beginning to slow production. Graphics cards, in particular, are being hit the hardest, and we expect those challenges to continue in the near term. Our team is actively engaging with suppliers and industry partners to better understand the evolving landscape and its impact on our customers. We’re committed to clear, proactive communication and will continue to lean on our trusted solution partners to help navigate these challenges together—with the shared goal of minimizing disruption and maximizing value for you.
What You Can Expect from ByteSpeed
We will not be using this situation to raise prices across the board. We will instead make adjustments that are grounded in real cost changes—nothing more, nothing less.
We’re committed to helping you navigate this situation with transparency and as little disruption as possible. That includes:
- Forecasting: Share your upcoming needs with us. Even without a firm commitment, this helps us plan ahead and better serve you.
- Early Planning: If you’re considering a purchase in the next few months, let’s talk now. With a potential second wave of tariff increases on June 1, it might make sense to act sooner rather than later.
- Budget Conversations: If you’re working on proposals or planning future projects, we’re happy to help incorporate potential tariff impacts into those plans.
- Flexible Billing Options: We’re offering public agencies—such as schools and municipalities—the ability to request delayed invoicing on current orders, allowing them to leverage funds from upcoming budget cycles.
- Financing for Businesses: For businesses and other entities, we offer a range of financing options to help you stay ahead of potential price increases or supply shortages, without straining your current cash flow.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Together, we’ll navigate whatever comes next.
